CORRIDOR FOR CONNECTIONS BETWEEN
PLATFORM AND AIRPORT FACILITIES AT INTERNATIONAL
AIRPORT
This third area of construction was designed and
built by CEGAZ. The constructive process was also
full with difficulties created as a consequence of
the same opposition of the local airport
administrative authorities because of their internal
political changes, trying to block any change in the
existing airport facilities. With the same
professional initiative, our company made multiple
additional schedules, programs and compromises in
order to get the permission to start with the
construction works and to comply with the
construction process and the extremely tight
contractual schedule of 140 days for the complete
design and construction of the project. Our safety
site program and the excellent coordination on each
construction procedure, allowed the International
Airport of Quito to keep working on all activities
without any delays or impacts at all to the people
(passengers) and companies (airlines) using the
different facilities.
The construction area was over 2000 m², and the
principal work activities were the following:
Topographical leveling of 2000 m²; base foundation
works, complete fabrication and installation of over
600 tons of metallic structures, installation of
1.860 m2 of metallic roof system; fabrication and
installation of 1.280 m2 of laminated glasses,
installation of over 2.000 m2 of American carpet
(including access areas), fabrication and
installation of 1.300 m2 of aluminum metallic panels
for connections; 2.000 m2 concrete placing on areas
of concrete slabs with metallic support; complete
fabrication and installation of five metallic
emergency stairs; fabrication and installation of
aluminum and crystal doors; installation of an
automatic fire protection system; installation of
complete set of luminaries; complete fabrication and
installation of a flow divider screen in aluminum
and glasses.
For arrivals, this area was designed as connection
area between airplanes and the migration / customs
area, and for departures as connection area between
the transit areas (gates) and the airplanes; it has
crystal doors for flow control. The corridor has 265
m as total length and has two levels; the first one
on ground is used for the transit of the vehicles
supplying and attending the flights requirements,
and the upper level is exclusively for persons
(passengers and airline controllers).
